LibreNMS alternative
A LibreNMS alternative when the NOC needs a product, not a project
LibreNMS is excellent open-source network monitoring. ZenPlus is the on-premises answer when flow, config backup, APM, HA, and accountable support should be a product—not separate DIY projects.
What you get
What this ZenPlus module gives your operations team
Purpose-built workflows that map to how operators actually work — not a placeholder surface, but a real, documented part of the ZenPlus console.
- LibreNMS (or a peer OSS stack) already covers SNMP polling and alerts, but NetFlow / NCM / APM / HA are glued on with scripts, second tools, or tribal knowledge
- Leadership wants a named vendor for upgrades, migrations, and who owns the outage at 2am—not only Discord/GitHub community help
- You still need on-premises telemetry and credentials—no SaaS NPM as the default
- Productized NetFlow + NCM in the same console, with Enterprise APM and HA under one license family
Live-system proof
- Live ZenPlus operations, NetFlow, NCM, and alerting screens were reviewed for this LibreNMS comparison. LibreNMS remains GPLv3 with $0 software license—compare TCO, not a fake SKU war.
Capabilities
Everything in LibreNMS alternative, organized the way you operate
Each group below is a working area of the module — from day-one setup to deep operational drill-downs.
What teams actually outgrow in LibreNMS
- Licensing is not the pain—ownership is: poller capacity, alert rule debt, flow collectors that never quite match the SNMP console
- Config backup living in another box (or a cron nobody owns)
- Upgrade weekends and “works on our fork” risk
- ZenPlus trades a per-device license for productized NetFlow + NCM + maps + alerting, with Enterprise APM and HA when the NOC needs them
Honesty about open source
- This page is not “LibreNMS is bad.” LibreNMS is a credible SolarWinds/PRTG alternative for teams that want OSS
- ZenPlus is for teams that want the same on-prem control without assembling the rest of the NOC stack themselves
LibreNMS is excellent open-source network monitoring. Auto-discovery, SNMP depth, and a GPLv3 license with $0 software cost are real advantages. Many teams that start there still evaluate a commercial on-prem alternative later—not because LibreNMS “fails,” but because flow, config backup, APM, HA, and accountable support become separate DIY projects while the network keeps growing.
ZenPlus is the other shape of answer: an on-premises appliance for devices, interfaces, servers, NetFlow, maps, alerting, NCM, and (on Enterprise) OpenTelemetry APM—licensed per unique IP, with vendor onboarding and a single operator language.

Who this page is for
Use this comparison if most of these are true:
- LibreNMS (or a peer OSS stack) already covers SNMP polling and alerts, but NetFlow / NCM / APM / HA are glued on with scripts, second tools, or tribal knowledge.
- Leadership wants a named vendor for upgrades, migrations, and “who owns the outage at 2am,” not only Discord/GitHub community help.
- You still need on-premises telemetry and credentials—no SaaS NPM as the default.
If you have strong Linux operators, a stable estate, and you are happy owning pollers, RRD/Influx tuning, and plugin upkeep forever, stay on LibreNMS. That is often the right call.

Comparison
Side-by-side: community OSS vs productized on-prem NOC
| LibreNMS (typical path) | ZenPlus (Zentryc) | |
|---|---|---|
| License / software cost | GPLv3 — $0 license | Per unique IP (published tiers on /pricing/) |
| Best-fit estate | SNMP-first networks with DIY capacity | NOC that wants modules included and a vendor path |
| Auto-discovery / SNMP | Strong community strength | First-class device + interface monitoring |
| NetFlow / sFlow / IPFIX | Possible via plugins / adjacent tools; often extra ops work | Included in Professional |
| NCM / config backup | Not the product center of gravity | Included in Professional |
| APM / OpenTelemetry | Outside core LibreNMS | Included in Enterprise |
| HA / distributed polling | DIY / community patterns | Enterprise HA path |
| Support | Community (GitHub, Discord/IRC); third-party optional | Vendor onboarding + support with the license |
| Data plane | Self-hosted on-prem | On-prem appliance / VM; Enterprise air-gap option |
| Free / trial | Full OSS forever | Free 10 devices; 30-day full-tier trial |
LibreNMS list price is not a useful procurement fight—it is free software (GPLv3, $0 license). Compare total cost of ownership: operator hours, second tools for flow/config, and undocumented glue. ZenPlus list is public on zentryc.com/pricing (September 2026): Essentials from $3/device/mo, Professional $5, Enterprise $7.50, billed annually, free 10 devices, 30-day full-tier trial.
Worked example
Worked example (TCO shape, not a quote war)
Illustrative estate: ~150 network devices, SNMP already solid in LibreNMS, leadership asks for NetFlow top-talkers, weekly config backup, and a named support path.
Neither path is free in the real world. Pick whether you pay in license + vendor or in engineering time + glue.
- LibreNMS path: Keep $0 license. Budget operator time for flow tooling, config backup, documentation, and on-call ownership. Hardware/VMs still cost money. Community support remains the default escalation.
- ZenPlus path: Professional list is $5/device/mo with volume discounts on /pricing/ (e.g. printed breaks at 100+ / 250+). NetFlow and NCM are in-tier. Ask sales for a 150-device quote and a side-by-side onboarding plan.
When to stay on LibreNMS
Stay if most of these are true:
- You have (or want) deep Linux/NOC DIY skills and enjoy owning the stack.
- SNMP + alerts are enough for the next planning horizon; flow/NCM/APM are not urgent.
- Community support and public issue trackers are acceptable escalation paths.
- Budget prefers $0 software cost even if operator hours are high.
- You already standardized on LibreNMS plugins and they are stable.
When ZenPlus is the better LibreNMS alternative
- You need productized NetFlow + NCM in the same console without a second project.
- Leadership wants a vendor for migration, upgrades, and severity-1 ownership.
- Enterprise needs APM (OpenTelemetry) and/or HA under one license family.
- You are consolidating away from a patchwork of OSS + scripts + a leftover commercial island.
- You already evaluate ZenPlus vs Zabbix/PRTG/SolarWinds and want the open-source comparison on the same honesty rules.
Migration
Migration sketch (60–90 days)
- Week 1–2: Inventory LibreNMS devices, alert rules, and any flow/config side tools. Stand up ZenPlus eval; mirror a non-prod site.
- Week 3–4: Dual-run critical sites—keep LibreNMS as system of record; match availability and interface utilization.
- Week 5–8: Cut primary NOC workflows to ZenPlus; enable NetFlow and NCM on production tiers; migrate alert destinations.
- Week 9–12: Decommission or shrink LibreNMS to a lab; document retention and report packs; optional ZenShield bundle if firewall logs are in scope.
- Talk to Zentryc for a device-count quote and whether coexistence or cutover fits the team.
